Ted Kennedy refers to Obama as Osama, saying:  "Why don't we just ask Osama bin -- Osama Obama -- Obama what -- since he won by such a big amount. Seriously, Senator Obama is really unique and special. the video.

CNN's Situation Room with Wolf Blitzer confused America's "number one enemy" with one of America's most popular senators, mistakenly referring to Barack Obama as Osama (as in bin Laden).

2/19/07 Paula Zahn Now guest host, Kyra Phillips, confused Obama with the world’s most wanted terrorist, saying -- on air -- "What do you think is Osama bin -- is, is Obama -- boy that was a terrible slip of the tongue, right?  Barack Obama, is he that new leader?"
2/26/07 ABC’s Joy Behar, Rosie O'Donnell's straight man on "The View," confused Obama and America’s Most Wanted Terrorist "Obama bin Laden."

In a discussion about Britney Spears, and where she could go to escape all the paparazzi and attention, co-host Joy Behar proudly exclaimed: “She needs to go wherever Obama bin Laden is hiding, because we can’t find him!” (video)
11/29/07 On "The View," Whoopi Goldberg committed a major faux pas, and called Obama, "Osama" ... and then said she made a mistake and go ahead and kick my butt.
2/19/08 The latest instance of a major cable outlet confusing Sen. Barack Obama and Osama bin Laden comes from MSNBC Tonight.

At the beginning of Hardball with Chris Matthews, a graphic titled "Words About Words" featured an image of bin Laden. The story Matthews teased was about the Obama speech being called into question for "plagiarism."

Matthews apologized 15 minutes later: "You may have noticed the graphic over my shoulder. A picture we showed over our shoulder, that was a mistake earlier in the broadcast. We apologize for the error." (Video)
4/15/08 John McCain and Barack Obama both appeared before the nation's newspaper editors yesterday.

The putative Republican presidential nominee was given a box of doughnuts and a standing ovation.

The likely Democratic nominee was likened to a terrorist.

Obama quickly corrected a slipup about his name Monday at the Associated Press' annual luncheon in Washington, DC.

Dean Singleton, board chair of the Associated Press and a longtime newspaper executive, asked Obama about the possibility of shifting troops into Afghanistan to fight against the al Qaeda leader.

"Can you imagine shifting a substantial number of Afghanistan -- a substantial number to Afghanistan where the Taliban has been gaining strength and Obama Bin Laden is still at large?"  Singleton asked

Obama, clearly a bit agitated, quickly interrupted him, "I think that was Osama bin Laden," the Democratic candidate said, and then took a big gulp of water from the glass next to the podium.

"Clinton, Osama Meet" -- Detroit Newspaper Prints Key Misspelling  (01:18)

6/23/08 For months, Barack Obama's campaign has repeatedly, and not always successfully, tried to swat away references to Barack "Osama," the mutating of the candidate's name into the similar-sounding moniker of the world's most-wanted terrorist.

Some of the mixups have been made accidentally (as when Sen. Ted Kennedy did it).  Some have been made maliciously by Obama's critics (as when Rush Limbaugh did it).

One mixup, with potentially vast effect, apparently belongs to the unintentional category and gained wide currency this week: The spell-checker in Microsoft's Hotmail recommends that users replace the word "Obama" with "Osama."
6/30/08 NBC - TODAY Show -- Monday, June 30, 2008 -- Chalk up another mis-speak -- Obama/Osama...

Matt Lauer just now said in a segment on the TODAY SHOW, "Obama, I'm sorry, Osama Bin Laden..."
