Two Terror Suspects Arrested In Bronx |
The New York Times is
reporting
that two men were arrested early on Friday in connection with the case
of an Afghan-born man who has pleaded not guilty to plotting a bombing
attack in the United States.
Adis Medunjanin, 25, and Zarein
Ahmedzay, 24, were arrested in New York City as part of the
investigation of Najibullah Zazi. Zazi's terror plot has been
described
as the most significant since 9/11.
They are suspected of traveling with Zazi in 2008 to Peshawar, Pakistan,
where prosecutors allege Zazi received al Qaeda training on how to make
bombs. They had both been under surveillance as part of the
investigation of Zazi, who was arrested in September, the Times said.
Both attended high schools with Zazi in the New York City borough of
Queens.
The arrest of Medunjanin and Ahmedzay came after
Medunjanin got into a car accident and tried to flee the scene on foot,
said Richard Kolko, an FBI spokesman. He was arrested after being
taken to the hospital.
Zazi, 24, was indicted by a federal grand
jury on a charge of conspiracy to use weapons of mass destruction.
A former coffee vendor from New York who had moved to Colorado, Zazi is
suspected of attempting to create and detonate a bomb in New York City
on the anniversary of the September 11 attacks.
Zazi's father and
a New York imam have also been arrested in the case -- accused of lying
to federal authorities. |
